.: death of rock and roll

Artist: The Gun and Doll Show

I worked on this track while learning the whole process of being an engineering process: from recording, to mixing, to mastering a final mix.

What I did in the mixing process was take Killian MacGeraghty's (leader of the Gun and Doll Show) rough vocal track and smooth it out. Killian made a rough vox track, so that his band had something to reference and so that he can compose as well. Hearing his rough vocals and finalized permanent I thought it would be cool to keep both. His rough vocals were almost a match with is permanent vocals, but with a slight variation that would work similar to male backup singers to incorporate with his female ones. So I took out all the instances where he was he giving directions (which were minor) and then I used VocALign to align that track with the permanent vocal track so that they were matched up.

Killian was a very confident client that knew exactly what he wanted for their record, so none of the student mixes were used on the final album recording.

Artist: The Last Men On Earth

This track was also part of my learning process. The Last Men On Earth is a side project also lead by Killian MacGeraghty, producing a second album separate from The Gun and Doll Show project. The band consisted of vocals, drums, piano, trumpet, and flugelhorn.

When first listening to this song, I got a very honky-tonk vibe from it. Originally, the song started out with all the instruments, but to enhance the introduction I decided to start out the track with just the drums, piano, and vocals. Then I brought in the rest of the band once they hit the first chorus, with the drums opening it up for them.

Two horns were played for this song, trumpet and flugelhorn. Rather than chose which one sounded the best, I worked in both. I used VocALign to match them up.

Once again, Killian's vision of how wanted the album to sound did not resonnate with the student mixes of the track, so none were included on the final album.
